Dresden Doilies Photo Shoot

Hi Everyone,

I have not been blogging as much as I would like.  Do you remember me telling you how busy this month is for me?  On top of everything, we are currently on a trip.  We are in Pennsylvania with the main destination being Gettysburg Battlefield.  Unfortunately, the government shutdown interfered, but more about that in another post.  This morning we went to the Hershey Gardens in Hershey, PA, and I took along Dresden Doilies and asked if it would be alright to photograph it in the garden and they said yes.  So, without any further ado, here are some of the results.  Warning:  lots of photos to follow.  I would love to know which one you like best!

Arched Fence

Flower Background

With some Daisies

Under a Tree

On a Stone Bridge

In Front of an Arbor

In the Giant Watering Can.  Doesn't it look miniature?

As a Fall Backdrop

With an Urn

Now for some close ups.  The quilting was done by Valorie, the Pumpkin Patch Quilter.  She did a beautiful job and was able to fit it in in time for our quilt show in less than two weeks, now!

She stitched the Dresden Plates in the ditch and McTavished the background.  The large and medium centers have a feather/flower quilted in them and the small centers are empty so they "puff."

It was a gorgeous day to be in the gardens, and the light was great.  It was cloudy, so there wasn't any harsh shadows from direct sunlight.

I hope you all are having a great day, too!
JoAnne

PS:  I think my favorite is the one with the urn.  If you look at it closely, you can just make out my husbands legs on either side of the urn.

  1. I like the arched fence picture best. Now did you have the quilt with you on your trip specifically to take pics? Your hubby is a prince.

  2. Nice photos and your quilt is so pretty! I like the watering can picture because it makes the quilt look mini! But my favorite overall shot is under the tree.

  3. Your quilt is so gorgeous! I did notice the legs... but that is because I was thinking... how is this being held up? I love the tree photo. Your fabrics and the fussy cut centers are beautiful.
Just a few minutes ago, I looked up the Gettysburg Address, because I was rusty on my history and last night the hubs and I were talking yadayadayada. Anyway, I should have just flown over and invaded your vacation!

  4. This is sure a gorgeous quilt! I am sure you will get lots of compliments on it at the show. I like the photo with the urn (and hidden husband quilt holder) and the one on the stone bridge. I hope you got to some quilt/fabric shops in the Lancaster area; no gov't shutdown for them!

  10. I think I like the one in front of the arbor best but there are several really good ones and the quilt is GORGEOUS!! Bet it wins a ribbon!! We were also bugged by the shutdown--my son is a fed. employee so he was off and we went down to Fredericksburg, TX and stopped at LBJ National park. They had the 'closed' sign out there as well. Ridiculous!!

  14. Arched fence catches my eye; but maybe because it is the first picture we see? They are all great pictures. So nice you were allowed to get all those pictures. The quilting is amazing. Best of luck to you in the competition.

  16. Such a pretty quilt. I'm glad you included a few closeups to show the quilting. My favorite is the arched fence without a doubt. It plays off the curves of the doilies.

  24. This is such a stunning quilt, JoAnne. How fun that you were able to photograph it in so many lovely locations. I like the first photo best. I think it shows off the design beautifully without the interference of the beautiful flowers --though, of course, it looks great in all the locations.
