Blogger Girls BOM Month 2

Hi Everyone,

I'm so excited to share the next month's block and information for the Blogger Girls BOM because this month's block is my contribution!  When Monique developed the concept for this year's version, she concentrated on designing the setting and asked us participating blogger girls to each contribute a block.  It wasn't that easy!  I wanted to choose a block that would be fun to manipulate in different ways, one that I really liked, and oh, yeah--just one block!  I finally decided on the Dutchman's Puzzle because it fit the above criteria and also it had flying geese and Monique has a great ruler to help you make those.

This is my first version.  As you can probably tell, it is made from 4 each of 2 different flying geese.  The only "trick" is that you need to make sure of your color placement.  In this block,  I really love the stripe in the red.  Initially, I had the outside corners navy blue as well, but they looked way too dark when I finished the block, so I made another set of geese with the medium blue, and like that much better.

And here is the second version.  Again, it is the same block--only the color placement is different.  This time there are 2 each of 4 different geese.  If you remember, I'm using the Grant Park line by Minick and Simpson from Moda.  I am still head-over-heels in love with this fabric.

Monique has all the instructions, great photos, and answers to questions that she has received from participants at her blog.  You can find the instructions for this month's blocks here as well as all the previous instructions in case you are just wanting to join in.  It isn't too late!  These blocks are quick and easy to make.

Don't forget to check out what the other participants are doing with their blocks!

Sherri at A Quilting Life  Sherri is making hers with Fig Tree reds and greens.  It's simply splendid!

Lissa from Moda Lissa  Lissa is using a "yet to be released" line called Snowbird from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.

Denise from The Quilters Window  Denise is using fabrics from some of Monique's fabrics

Jodi from Pleasant Home  Jodi is using some gorgeous Liberty fabrics.  They are really drool-worthy.

You can share your pictures and see others at the group flickr page.
You can share via instagram using #bloggergirlsbom

I would love to write a blogpost featuring any of you who are following along.  If you would like to share please send photos to me at patrioticquilter@gmail.com

Have a great day!
JoAnne

  1. I just printed off my pattern so I'll be getting to them this week. I'd planned on using the same Grant Park line but left my bundle at my moms when I was down in Florida so I couldn't start.....she told me yesterday she mailed it up so I can start hopefully at the end of the week.
I have a charm pack but I don't want to use that.....
Congrats on being one of the designers!!! I love your block!
