Long Weekend

Hi Everyone,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I had so many nice comments on how my Colonial Canasta quilt came out.  It was one of those quilts that I didn't think would be that great until I was finished.  Now it is one of my favorites.  Does that ever happen to you?  Many of you commented on liking the scalloped border and I was planning to scallop the border of my tiny cake stands quilt, so as I worked on that this weekend, I took photos for a tutorial.  Hopefully I will get to writing that this week, but I have a couple things going on that will be distracting me from quilting/blogging time.

I had several small quilt tops that I wanted to quilt, so I layered them at the end of last week and quilted them, so I spent my free moments stitching the binding.  I got four of them done, including the cake stands.

We spent a good part of Labor Day weekend, well, laboring!  (Speaking of labor, I always thought it would be funny to have a baby on labor day....)  Our labor was the work-type.  Our mailbox needed to be "cleaned."  At least according to the "nasty gram" we got from the home owner's association.  We are renting and the area is really nice, but the HOA is rather notorious for its standards and rules.  Either we have been gone or it has rained for most of the past few weekends, so this was "the one."  Of course scrubbing the mailbox wasn't enough, as I knew, and so it needed painting.  We all have matching white mailboxes in front of our houses here.  I did the scrubbing on Saturday after the mail came, discovered in the process that there was a colony of ants living in the crack between the post and the brace, so I also sprayed and left it overnight.  On Sunday, my husband undid the hardware and we painted.  Monday, we put it all back together.

Also yesterday I went into my quilt room to do some cleaning!  With wood floors, it is unbelievable how much thread, bits of fabric, fuzz, lint, thread, etc. accumulates, so I tackled that job.  Usually, I do a quick sweep around things, but yesterday I moved everything and also swept the ceiling and walls free of several cobwebs.  I seem to get many cobwebs there, but never see any spiders.  I guess that's a good thing.  Now the room is so nice and clean that I almost hate to go in and work on something.  Almost.

Have a great day!
JoAnne

  1. What a delightful group of little quilts. They are all sweet, but I am especially in love with that little cake stand quilt and its pretty scalloped border. Very nice!!
I took a class years ago on borders and they taught how to do the scallop, but I have never done it. : )

  2. I'm loving all four of those sweet quilts! I can't pick a favorite! I think I might have to do all four! lol And I can't wait for your tutorial....I've been wanting to do a scalloped border for a while now, and I'm sure you'll have all the kinks worked out, so it will be a breeze! Thanks in advance! :o)

Yeah.....and how do those cobwebs materialize? I've never seen the spiders, either! (Thank GOD! Sheesh!) lol

  3. You did have a busy weekend! Wow... that's a lot to accomplish! Love those quilts... esp the scalloped border on the tiny cake stands.

Those mysterious cobwebs are something... I never see spiders in them either.

  4. With all that "labor" you will have plenty of leisure time for quilting. Nice finishes of your little quilts.
