Monday

Hi Everyone,

What an experience this weekend was.  We lived in Hawaii for three years, and Hawaii doesn't change to daylight savings time.  Gaining that hour last fall was easy, not so much this weekend!  Truthfully, we haven't adjusted yet.  Our clocks are reset, but not our internal ones.  My husband has the day off today.  We aren't sure just why, but we aren't complaining!  He came down with my cold on Friday night, so the challenge has been to keep him "resting" and not doing too much.  This is actually more difficult than you may realize, because my husband is the very opposite of lazy.

I have been filling you in for a couple weeks now about the Midatlantic Quilt Fest, but maybe you are wondering what I have been doing in the quilt room lately.  Do you ever have a spell where you start something, get part way into it and then you just lose interest?  I've had a few of those projects lately.  Is it the end of winter blahs?  I hope so.  That would make it not my problem, ha ha.

I am really excited about my next project, though.  I spent the past few days cutting it and drawing the diagonal lines.  I know that I could use my Easy Angle, but in this case, I want the pieces to be absolutely accurate.  Hopefully I will get some stitching done and be able to share with you soon.  This is one of the projects that I have on my list for the year, and I've been collecting fabric for it for a few years, now!

Another tedious project that I accomplished was to work on the backing for the king-sized quilt.  I ordered extra wide backing, but it is 108" wide, and I need backing to be 118" wide.  Do I add a stip on the side?  Or should I put it "inside" the wide backing fabric.  What fabric do I have that would work?  Why can't this be easier?  Ugh.  I finally got it done and now the problem is finding a box large enough to mail to the quilter.  It is always something.

On a better note, the trees are starting to flower here and daffodils are blooming so Spring should be here!

I hope you all have a great day!
JoAnne

  1. Glad you are getting some spring; we're several weeks away, and quite eager for its arrival.
I don't like the time change in either direction. I have quite a commute (although I'm grateful that it's now down to 40 miles each direction, thanks to a job change), and I find that for the first week of the time change the number of auto accidents increase dramatically. I chalk it up to the fact that people fail to adjust their schedules to the new time and then are really too tired to drive. I'm fortunate to be on spring break (although that's a pretty euphemistic name) and very grateful that although I have to make a couple of trips to the city this week, I'll be able to stick close to home, hopefully far from the too-tired drivers.

  2. I hear you about the time change. Next year is gong to be a bear since we have lived here in HI for 6 years without time changes.

As far as loosing interest halfway through... you know me... that is the epitome of my quilting life...lol

This morning it was 64 degreees at 7am, so I know it got colder during the night. I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning; my quilt was keeping me nice and toasty!

  3. I can relate on the "losing interest" thing...that is probably why I have so many UFO's. looking forward to seeing what you are up to. By the way, way to go on working up the courage to have a quilt appraised, and congrats on the good news they told you...why do we always underestimate our talent?
